Have you seen the greatest movie of all time? If not, stop what you’re doing and add Forrest Gump to your watchlist ASAP. Better yet, watch it before your trip to Savannah!
Savannah has served as the backdrop for countless movies over the years, but none is more iconic than Forrest Gump. Fans from all over the world still make the pilgrimage to Chippewa Square to visit the spot where Forrest shared his famous wisdom: “Life is like a box of chocolates.” The scene was filmed on the north side of the square at the corner of Bull and Hull Streets, making it a must-see stop for movie buffs.
Now for a fun fact that surprises a lot of visitors: the famous bench is no longer in Chippewa Square. In fact, the original movie prop was moved and is now displayed at the Savannah History Museum. If seeing the bench is on your Savannah bucket list, the museum is the place to go! It’s open seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with admission priced at $12 for adults and $8 for children.
Still hoping for the perfect Forrest Gump photo? Don’t worry—Savannah has you covered. Head over to the Savannah Taste Experience on Broughton Street, where you’ll find a replica Forrest Gump bench that’s perfect for snapping a few photos and recreating your favorite movie moments.
While you’re at the Savannah Taste Experience, keep an eye out for Savannah’s aluminum souvenir cups. Many local restaurants serve to-go drinks in decorative aluminum cups, and they make fantastic keepsakes. And yes—you can legally stroll through much of the historic district with an adult beverage in hand, as long as it’s in an approved cup. Now that’s sightseeing, Savannah-style!
Whether you’re a die-hard Forrest Gump fan, a history lover, or just someone looking for a unique Savannah experience, the Savannah History Museum is well worth a visit. Between the city’s fascinating past and the chance to see one of Hollywood’s most recognizable movie props, it’s a stop you won’t want to miss. As Forrest might say, you never know what you’re gonna get—but this attraction is definitely a winner!
